Penang High Court declares Norjuma bankrupt

GEORGE TOWN: The High Court here today declared entrepreneur Norjuma Habib Mohamed bankrupt after failing to pay RM260,400 to Fame Up Entertainment.

Assistant Registrar Siti Zulaikha Nordin @ Ghani recorded the bankruptcy order after hearing a creditor's petition filed by the company last year October.

Speaking to newsmen after proceedings in chamber, Muhammad Hassanuddin Roslan, representing the company, said the High Court had today declared Norjuma bankrupt.

He said Norjuma had been informed about this morning's proceedings at 9am but did not show up and that the court had been informed about the matter.

"We believe the Insolvency Department will proceed with the bankruptcy process.

"Basically, Fame Up Entertainment had filed a creditor's petition against Norjuma and today has been fixed for hearing.

"The court adjudged her bankrupt after she failed to make settlement for the creditor's petition," he said.

Present in court was Fame Up Entertainment owner Zuriawati Zaidi, 44.

In October last year, it was reported that Fame Up filed a bankruptcy notice at the Penang High Court against Norjuma.

The notice was filed on Aug 15 in a bid to compel Norjuma to pay RM260,400 after being ordered to do so by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Muhammad Hassanuddin had said then that if she failed to pay, the company would file a petition of bankruptcy against her, which they did on on Oct 26 last year.

It was previously reported that efforts to detain Norjuma, who has an arrest warrant out against her, had failed as she was not at home.

For the record, Fame Up Entertainment filed two defamation suits against Norjuma in 2019 and 2020.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hassanuddin said the arrest warrant proceedings at the Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam courts would proceed.

"We are still in communications with the Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam courts as well as the nearest police stations.

"The arrest warrant had been submitted to the respective police stations in Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam," he added.

Muhammad Hassanuddin also said that he had a statement from Fame Up Entertainment.

"As you said, we too noticed that Norjuma had issued statements, saying that the proceedings by Fame Up Entertainment was fake, false.

"We believe that the order issued by the court today proved that proceedings by Fame Up Entertainment was right and still ongoing.

"So we hope that Norjuma to stop from issuing any statements which is untrue, more so as it involves court proceedings," he said.
