Rosmah gets back passport to visit grandchild and celebrate Aidilfitri in Singapore

PUTRAJAYA: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will be heading to Singapore to visit a sick grandchild and celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri there next month.

This after the Court of Appeal today allowed her application to temporarily get back her international passport.

The wife of jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is now appealing against her conviction and sentence over the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

Judge Datuk Seri Kamaludin Md Said who chaired the three-member panel said the court would give her passport on Thursday, and the accused needed to return the document to court before May 10.

Earlier, Rosmah's counsel Datuk Jagjit Singh applied for the court to temporarily return the document to Rosmah to allow her to visit her daughter and two grandchildren in the republic.

"She will stay there for six weeks as she wants to celebrate Hari Raya with her family there.

"There is no objection from the prosecution," he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Poh Yih Tinn who appeared for the prosecution confirmed this.

Rosmah, 71, was charged with soliciting RM187.5 million from former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin, through her then-aide Datuk Rizal Mansor, as an inducement to help the company secure the project.

She was also accused of two counts of receiving bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from Saidi between 2016 and 2017.

Rosmah's case started on Feb 5, 2020, and High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan ordered her to enter her defence against all charges on Feb 18, 2021.

Zaini found Rosmah guilty of all three charges on Sept 1, last year.

Rosmah then filed for an appeal against the conviction through Messrs Akberdin & Co at the Court of Appeal on Sept 2.
