Man admits to seriously injuring mother, sister with meat cleaver

MELAKA: An unemployed man pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here today to two charges of seriously injuring his own mother and younger sister with a meat cleaver three weeks ago.

Muhammad Hidayat Abu Samad, 24, made the admission after the charges were read to him in front of Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail.

According to the charge, the accused is alleged to have deliberately caused serious injuries towards his mother , Sapiah Abdul Kadir, 49, by using a meat cleaver.

The attack is alleged to have been carried out by the accused at house No 1, Jalan BLI, Taman Bukit Larang Indah, at around 10pm on March 10.

For the second charge, on the same date, time and place, Muhammad Hidayat is charged with purposely causing grievous hurt towards his sister, Noor Iman Dania, 11, by using the same weapon.

For the offence, the accused will be tried under Section 326 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A under the same act, and if found guilty, the accused can be jailed for up to 40 years, fined or whipped.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Muhammad Nazrin Ali Rahim applied to the court that Muhammad Hidayat be sent to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Permai in Tampoi, Johor.

He made the application under Section 342(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code for a psychiatric report to determine the mental state of the accused when committing such a heinous crime.

The court allowed for the application and set April 19 for remention of the case.

The accused was unrepresented.
