SUNGAI PETANI: A scrap metal dealer was arrested after he assaulted a book dealer and damaged his car in a road rage incident in front of Central Square here on Tuesday .
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan said the 50-year-old victim was driving his Nissan Cefiro in the 12.30pm incident.
He said the suspect on motorcycle was heading towards a parking spot when he crossed into the path of the victim's car.
"The victim could not avoid crashing into the suspect on motorcycle.
"The 29-year-old suspect then took off his crash helmet and used it to smash the car's left front door window, front windshield, rightside mirror, left headlight and damaged the front bonnet," Zaidy said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He said the suspect assaulted the victim by once again using his crash helmet and the latter sustained injuries to his right hand, left side of his head, shoulder and back.
The victim was later treated at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.
Zaidy said the incident is believed to have happened because the suspect was angry with the victim for knocking into his motorcycle until he fell off.
The suspect is being remanded for four days and the case is investigated under Section 324/427 of the Penal Code for cuasing hurt by dangerous means and mischief leading to damage.
Video clips of the incident that were taken by members of the public have been making their rounds on social media.
