Singaporean founder of tahfiz centre charged again with sexual assault against students

MELAKA: The Singaporean man who founded a tahfiz centre here, was charged again in the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court today with three charges of committing sexual assault and unnatural sex against a male student in 2018 and 2019.

This brings to 11 charges faced by Muhammad Firdaous Abdul Rashif, 40, after he was previously charged with five counts of committing physical sexual assault and unnatural sex on three of his students.

The father of six, however, pleaded not guilty when the three charges against him were read before Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.

For the first and second charges, he was charged with unnatural physical sexual assault on a 15-year-old boy at the time of the incident.

The offense was allegedly committed at a condominium in Klebang 8, here, on July 13 and 28, 2018, between 11pm to midnight and between 2am to 6am.

The accused is also accused of repeating the offense physical sexual abuse and unnatural sex on a 16-year-old teenager at a house in Madrasah Al-Islah, Tanjung Minyak, on Jan 18,2019, at about 9 am.

All the offenses are charged in accordance with Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017.

Earlier, the accused, who has two wives, failed to get bail after Deputy Public Prosecutor Aliff Asraf Anuar Sharuddin objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the possibility that the accused would flee.

After examining the arguments of both sides, the court did not allow the accused to be bailed and the case has been set for June 19 for mention.
