Son gets 4 years' jail, whipping for hurting mother over money to buy syabu

KOTA KINABALU: A jobless man was sentenced to four years' jail and one stroke of the rotan for causing injury to his mother over money.

Konsaid Yakob, 33, asked RM5 from his mother to buy syabu but the mother could only give him RM3 which led to the incident.

Konsaid pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge Elsie Primus to causing injury to his 48-year-old mother at a house in Telipok Housing Scheme on May 26, at 2.50pm.

The offence under Section 324 of the Penal Code read with Section 326A of the same Code provides for a jail term of up to 20 years, fine or with whipping, or with any of the punishments, upon conviction.

The facts of the case stated that the accused who is the eldest child of the family was high on drugs when he asked RM5 from his mother to buy syabu.

The accused became enraged and rampaged when the mother only gave him RM3. He took a piece of wood and hit her on the head, causing her to bleed.

The accused became scared when he saw blood on the floor and ran away. He was apprehended by the villagers and handed over to the police the same day.

Deputy public prosecutor Jessica Ombou Kakayun prosecuted. The accused was unrepresented.
