Political fatwa: Bukit Aman investigating PN chairman Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation into Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over the latter's haram fatwa remarks towards voting for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Pulai parliamentary by-election.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the investigation is currently being carried out by Bukit Aman's Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) under its Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ).

It is believed that a report against Muhyiddin was made at the police headquarters, yesterday.

"Yes, we received a report (on Muhyiddin) and we have carried out an investigation (on the matter).

"We will summon him (Muhyiddin) in the nearest time," he told Berita Harian, today.

Razarudin said the case will be investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for issuing a statement that could cause alarm and public fear.

The investigation was also carried out in line with Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Previously, a video of the former prime minister declaring it haram to vote for PH candidate Suhaizan Kayat in the upcoming Pulai parliamentary by-election had made rounds on social media platforms.

Muhyiddin reportedly issued the statement when giving a talk in one of PN's ceramah in Nusa Bestari, Johor Baru yesterday ahead of the by-election on Saturday.
