KUALA LUMPUR: A 46-year-old businessman was charged with assaulting his Indonesian maid by using a vacuum cleaner rod last week.
The accused, Lee Chee Huat, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before magistrate Atiqah Mohamed @ Mohamad Saim today.
According to the charge sheet, Lee had caused injury to Darsinih, 28, near a house in Jalan Prima 10, Metro Prima in Sentul at 10.30am on Sept 22.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or whipping or any two of such punishments, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal asked no bail to be offered to the accused as the offence was a non-bailable one.
However, Counsel Vincent Chew who appeared for the accused pleaded for minimum bail.
The court set RM2,500 bail with one surety and ordered the accused to report himself to the nearby police station monthly.
The court also fixed Nov 3 for mention.
Harian Metro reported that the Indonesian domestic worker was seen standing at the gate of a condominium unit in Kepong, revealing her ordeal as she claimed to be a victim of assault and rape by her employer.
She was observing workers from a logistics company moving items into her neighbour's house before mustering the courage to seek help from one of the workers to rescue her by contacting the authorities.
