KUALA LUMPUR: The office of the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) is expected to come out with a decision regarding the rare earth element (REE) theft issue in Bukit Enggang Forest Reserve in Sik in the coming weeks.
This was revealed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki who said that the graft buster had completed its investigation into the matter.
"The investigation into the REE issue has been handed over to the DPP's office for further review.
"It is expected that they will make a decision (regarding the issue) within the next two to three weeks," he said after a shooting event with the media in conjunction with MACC's 56th anniversary.
On July 18, MACC conducted an investigation into the illegal mining of REE which had led to losses to the government.
MACC also opened several investigation papers under Section 17 (A) and Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
The graft buster is also examining the case to be charged under Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Act 1998.
Meanwhile, Azam had previously said that it would summon Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor regarding the REE issue.
