Muhyiddin accuses authorities of power abuse following MACC raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has levied accusations of power abuse against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) authorities after a raid conducted on his lawyer's office.

The firm, Rosli Dahlan Saravana, is actively involved in Muhyiddin's defamation suit against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other high-profile cases.

Muhyiddin had voiced his concerns during a ceramah near Bentong ahead of the Pelangai by-election in Pahang, stating, "MACC raided my lawyer's office today. Why did they do that?"

"This is abuse of power by the authorities. It's enough, Anwar (Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim). Stop this oppression … Focus on saving the economy and helping the people."

The raid, involving more than 10 MACC officers, took place yesterday morning in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, as reported by a Bersatu source.

The source mentioned that MACC officials aimed to search and seize documents from the firm.

Another source, however, argued that the MACC's actions constituted a follow-up visit as part of an ongoing investigation.

Earlier Malaysiakini also reported that MACC also attempted to raid the firm of Chetan Jethwani & Co, which also represents Muhyiddin in legal matters.

Rosli Dahlan, lead counsel in the defamation suit against Anwar Ibrahim, was formerly involved in 1Malaysia Development Berhad's legal proceedings, the government investment company implicated in a significant financial scandal.
