Four men charged with murder of elderly Kuala Ketil man

BALING: Four men were charged in the magistrate's court here today with murdering an elderly man in Kuala Ketil here early this month.

K. Tamilselvam, 25; C. Vickarran, 33; Sarim Omar, 33; and S. Sureshkumar, 21, nodded when the charge was read in Tamil by the court interpreter.

However, no plea was recorded before Judge Najwa Che Mat as the charge falls under the purview of the High Court.

All the accused were charged with jointly murdering S. Kanan, 71, at a house number 170, Lorong Bidara 4, Taman Desa Bidara in Kuala Ketil on Oct 1, between 3pm and 4.20pm.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Act which carries death penalty or no less than 30 years' imprisonment but not more than 40 years' and whipping no less than 12 strokes.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Ikmal Affandi Zulkifli prosecuted while all the accused were not represented.

The court fixed December 14 for mention pending forensic and chemist report.

The media has reported that the victim found unconscious at his home with strangulation marks while his arms and legs were bound.

It was also reported that following the incident, police have arrested two men who appeared in a CCTV recording as leaving the victim's house, which later led to the arrest of another two suspects.
