Two nabbed trying to smuggle subsidised 1kg cooking oil polybags to Thailand

TANAH MERAH: A lorry driver and his attendant were arrested for possessing nearly RM20,000 worth of subsidised 1kg cooking oil in polybags yesterday.

The two were travelling from Tanah Merah to Rantau Panjang when they were nabbed by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) Seventh Battalion.

They were passing a roadblock at Lalang Pepuyu at about 5.30pm before they were arrested for the possession of 6,800 kg of cooking oil.

The GOF members also seized the lorry valued more than RM60,000.

The cooking oil is believed to be for smuggling into Thailand via one of the illegal jetties located along the border.

The case has been handed over to the Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

The ministry in a Facebook post today said the two men, in their 20s, were being held for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Control Supplies Act 1961.
