Two arrested for online insults against royals

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested two men for posting insulting comments against the Royal Institution on social media.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the suspects were arrested over two separate cases, with the first arrest made in Gombak, yesterday.

"The first suspect is believed to be Muhammad Farhan, 32, based on the Facebook account by the same name that posted insults against the royals," he said in a statement.

Shuhaily said the second suspect, a 33-year-old, was arrested in Balik Pulau, Penang for a similar offence following a Tik Tok post by user @azwanar90.

"The two have been remanded for three days starting today until Oct 15 and the second suspect has been remanded for four days until Oct 16 respectively.

"The two cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.
