2-month baby dies, police arrest babysitter

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a woman following the death of a two-month-old baby girl at a daycare centre in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, last Tuesday.

The woman, in her late 40s is the was detained after being called to the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters at 3pm yesterday.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the caregiver, who is a foreigner married to a local was released on police bail.

"The investigation into the case is being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 relating to offences involving child abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposure to injuries.

"At this time, the police are still awaiting the full report of the post-mortem examination conducted on the baby," he said when contacted by BH today.

Fakhrudin urged the public to allow the police to carry out further investigations before taking subsequent actions.

"Please give us time to complete the investigation," he said.

The incident occurred on the second day after the victim, Qaseh Aulia Faizul, a 2-month-old baby, was sent to a daycare centre in Section 6, Kota Damansara.

The victim's father, Faizul Ali Adam, revealed that he received a call from the daycare centre informing him that his child was unconscious with a pale and bluish face before being taken to a hospital in Kota Damansara.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Faizal was informed that his child had passed away, and her body was referred to the University of Malaya Medical Center (PPUM) for a post-mortem examination.

Faizal later lodged a police report after reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the daycare centre and discovering indications of negligence by the caregiver.
