Businessman cleared of RM9mil fraud charge

KUALA LUMPUR: A 54-year-old businessman was freed by the Sessions Court from defrauding a lawyer out of RM9 million nine years ago.

Judge Kamarudin Kamsun discharged and acquitted Sarwan Singh Kundan Singh of the offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code on Sept 29 this year.

Sarwan Singh's counsel Yohendra Nadarajan confirmed this when contacted today.

According to the charge sheet, Sarwan had deceived the 56-year-old victim, to invest in multiple businesses including mining, a restaurant, and redevelopment of Medini Square.

Sarwan Singh's action had prompted the victim to hand over RM9 million at her law firm office between March and June 2014.
