BAGAN DATUK: Police have arrested six underage teenagers who allegedly raped their 14-year-old schoolmate at a house in Hutan Melintang here.
Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said that police received a report from the victim's parents at 8.30pm on Tuesday.
Ahmad Adnan added that the matter came to light after the mother of the victim was informed of the incident by the school before she lodged the report.
"The incident is believed to have happened on Sept 24 at about 2.30am at a house in Hutan Melintang here.
"Initial investigation found that the victim was picked up by one of the teenagers whom she recognised and she was taken to the house.
"Upon arrival, there were five teenagers there. The victim claimed that the five of them took turns to rape her, with the exception of the individual who brought her to the residence," he said in a statement today.
Ahmad Adnan said that following the report lodged, police then arrested the six teenagers aged between 15 and 17.
"Five of them are still attending school, while the 17-year-old teenager has quit school," he said, adding that they had been remanded for three days until tomorrow to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code for gang rape which carries a prison sentence of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years upon conviction.
He added that the investigation of this case was considered complete and the investigation papers would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instruction.
