Raid on Pasar Borong nets 106 illegal immigrants

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 106 illegal immigrants were detained in a raid at Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur early today.

General Operations Force (GOF) central Brigade commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner Zulkifli Jonit said that they carried out the Op Taring Nyah II raid together with Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and Immigration Department at around 4.30am.

"Checks led to the arrest of 106 illegal immigrants including three women who did not possess any valid identification documents.

"The detainees consist of 46 Myanmar nationals, 28 Indonesians, 19 Bangladeshi, and 13 Indians," he said in a statement today.

No personal belongings were seized from the raid, he said.

They were arrested and handed over to Immigration Department to be probed under Section 6(3), Section 6(1), Section 15(4), Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, and Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

He said they will continue to carry out the operation in the future.

"People are welcome to provide information regarding suspicious activities or the presence of illegal immigrants in their respective areas for further action.

"The police will carry out their duties and responsibilities to maintain and control public safety and order," he said.
