MELAKA: A two-month old baby girl died after being fed milk formula at her family's home in Taman Melaka Raya, here, early this morning.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the baby's 26-year-old mother rushed to baby to the Melaka Hospital emergency department at about 6.30am for treatment.
According to him, preliminary investigations found that the baby, who is the youngest of five siblings, had been sleeping together with her mother at about 11pm.
"Two hours later, the woman gave her milk formula and after burping, the baby was placed on her back on the mattress.
"However, when she got up to go to the toilet at around 5am, she found her baby lying face down and was stiff before taking her to the hospital," he said in a statement here today.
According to Christopher, the baby upon arrival, was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 40 minutes by the doctor on duty at the emergency department's red zone, but there were no signs of life.
The victim was later pronounced dead at 7.10am.
He said results of the physical examination on the baby's body did not reveal any bruises or wounds.
"The results of an X-ray also found no signs of fracture or internal bleeding.
"The victim's body was sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine and hospital mortuary for post-mortem process to determine the cause of death; and the case was classified as sudden death," he said.
