IGP: Police record MMEA DG's statement over alleged sexual harassment

KUALA LUMPUR: Police may call the complainant who levelled sexual harassment accusations against Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general Admiral Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin again, in the course of the ongoing investigation.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police have recorded Hamid's statement over a sexual harassment accusation today.

"We have summoned him today and most likely, after his statement is recorded, we would also summon the complainant again. We would be calling a two or three other witnesses who police believe could shed more light into the case, as well.

"So far, police have recorded the complainant's statement and investigations are still ongoing," he said referring to a sexual harassment report made against Hamid.

MMEA, in a statement yesterday said the dissemination of a police report lodged by a woman, who claimed she was sexually harassed by Hamid, was of a personal nature with its own motive.

The New Straits Times earlier reported that a woman lodged a police report alleging sexual harassment against the director-general of an enforcement agency.

The 39-year-old financial consultant claimed she had initiated contact with the individual in November last year when he was serving in another capacity within the same agency, in order to discuss potential investment prospects.
