Shah Alam car thief faces four-day remand for daring heist

SHAH ALAM: A 26-year-old suspect apprehended in Kedah for stealing a Honda City Hatchback from a Shah Alam car wash outlet has been remanded for four days, starting today.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said Shah Alam Court magistrate M. Mageshwary granted the remand application.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, specifically for the theft of a motor vehicle, a charge that carries a maximum seven-year prison sentence if proven guilty.

In a viral video, the suspect had driven off the car after being handed the set of keys by a complainant, who thought he was a worker at the car wash.

The incident happened on Nov 20 at about 9.30pm, and the suspect was arrested two days later at 6.10am at Pokok Sena in Kedah.

Subsequently, the suspect was transported from Kedah to Shah Alam, where he cooperated with investigators, leading them to the i-City Apartment where the stolen car was located.

Iqbal said the suspect was unemployed and had two drug-related records.

The man was also tested positive for methamphetamine.
