MACC set to question Aman Palestin CEO over alleged misuse of funds

KUALA LUMPUR: Aman Palestin Bhd chief executive officer Awang Suffian Awang Piut is slated to be summoned for questioning within the next week over alleged misappropriation of funds within the organisation.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed this when contacted by the New Straits Times today.

"The investigation process is still ongoing. So far, we have recorded statements from 11 Aman Palestin Bhd management staff.

"We will be summoning more individuals from Aman Palestin and also related proxy companies," he said.

Azam revealed that MACC's preliminary findings had identified several assets purchased with misused funds by individuals linked to Aman Palestin.

"These assets were allegedly acquired using misappropriated funds from Aman Palestin through investments made via several proxy companies," he said.

Azam added that searches of company premises will also be conducted to obtain relevant documents and information.

The New Straits Times is trying to contact Awang Suffian for comments.

It was previously reported that MACC was in the process of identifying assets of the Aman Palestin organisation believed to have been obtained through the misappropriation of RM70 million in public funds.

Earlier, the MACC confirmed the freezing of 41 bank accounts of the organisation, amounting to RM15,868,762. The freezing was carried out after the MACC investigated allegations of Aman Palestin misusing public donations.
