KL crime statistics record 10pct decrease to previous year

KUALA LUMPUR: Crime index statistics for Kuala Lumpur for the first 10 months of this year recorded a decrease of 410 cases or 10 per cent, compared to 4,173 cases for the same period last year.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, said violent crime as a whole recorded a decrease of 122 cases or 14 per cent this year compared to 288 cases the previous year.

He said criminal cases of theft or loss of property also recorded a decrease of 288 cases or nine per cent this year.

"For drug-related cases, the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department seized various types of drugs worth RM101 million from January to October, compared to RM122 million in the same period last year.

"The arrest statistics for January to September last year compared to the same period last year, recorded an increase of 481 people which is 12,199 people for this year compared to 11,718 the previous year," he said after attending the Kuala Lumpur police contingent monthly assembly here, today.

Allaudeen said commercial crime continued to record an increase in success, with 1,439 raids involving online fraud crimes.

"A total of 83 investigation papers have been opened involving the arrest of 1,023 people from January to last October.

"The Commercial Crime Investigation Department of Kuala Lumpur also carried out 2,549 other operations to curb commercial crime," he said.

He said the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department also opened 57,437 cases with an achievement of 99.20 per cent.

"The current investigation paper charges have reached 98.75 per cent with the investigation papers that have been opened," he said.

He said, a total of 170 senior police officers and junior police officers have been assigned to monitor traffic congestion in the capital.

"In addition, the assignment of the officers and members also includes the assignment of accompanying dignitaries, explosives, school examination papers and large amounts of money, it is one of the challenges in their assignment," he said.
