Perak police nab 2,058 individuals involved in illegal gambling

IPOH: Perak police carried out 1,731 raids and seized assets worth RM295,854 from those involved in illegal gambling activities in the state from January 1 to November 29, said Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

Mohd Yusri said during the period, 2,058 individuals were detained.

"Police also seized 1,266 electronic items like computers, portable printers and handphones used in the operation of illegal gambling activities. We also opened 1,731 investigation papers for various offences," he said during a press conference at the Perak Police Contingent headquarters, here today (December 1).

Mohd Yusri added that the Perak police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had also detained 11 individuals, believed to have been involved in a call centre for illegal gambling online at Taman Bercham Makmur, here on September 11.

"The 11 suspects, aged between 20 and 45, comprised four locals and seven foreigners from Myanmar and Indonesia. Investigations revealed that the premise was used as a call centre for the past three months," he said. — Bernama
