13-year-old in botched robbery of e-hailing driver to be charged in court

SUNGAI PETANI: The 13-year-old teenager in a botched robbery of an elderly e-hailing driver recently is expected to be charged at the Sungai Petani Magistrate Court tomorrow.

Kuala Muda district police chief Zaidy Che Hassan said the teenager will be charged under Section 393 of the Penal Code.

In the incident at around 6pm, the young man who boarded the e-hailing service is said to have tried to point a knife at the left chest of the 65-year-old driver after he could not bear to be insulted while taking back the fare.

However, the driver grabbed the knife and bit the teenager's hand to defend himself before the suspect fled.

The teenager was arrested by police at 10pm following a report made by the driver at 8pm, the day of the incident.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old Nepalese man will be charged at the Gurun Magistrate Court tomorrow for attempting to kidnap and run off with a three-year-old girl from legal custody in Jeniang Town, last Sunday.

Initial inquiries suggested that the motive behind the suspect's actions was due to extreme stress and hunger during the incident, as he had gone several days without food.

Zaidy said the case was investigated in accordance with Section 363 of the Penal Code and Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

In the incident, the man is said to have tried to run off with a three-year-old girl in front of a roti canai shop in Jeniang Town, Gurun but failed when he was stopped by the public before being handed over to the police at 7.20am.

He rushed towards the victim and held him up before taking a few steps back while pointing a knife towards the child's neck.
