Zayn Rayyan murder: Police set up task force, parents to re-record statements

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will re-record the statements of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's parents after yesterday's autopsy revealed that the six-year-old autistic child died as a result of murder.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the case of the child's death has been reclassified as murder after the autopsy found signs of injuries on the victim's neck and body.

"Yes, we will re-record statements from the victim's parents (to assist police investigation).

"In addition, we have also established a special 'task force' to focus on assisting this case's investigation," he said.

Earlier, the New Straits Times reported that police were investigating Zayn Rayyan's death as a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code following today's autopsy report.

The child's body was found in a stream near his residence at around 10pm by a group of residents conducting a search operation together with the police.

The victim was found lying at the edge of the stream located about 200m from his residence block at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, here.

The child was reported missing at noon on Tuesday (Dec 5), and the last time he was seen was when he entered the bushes near Apartment Idaman.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abd Hamid, said the investigating team would revisit the location where Zayn Rayyan's body was found to gather new evidence and clues. He said the police would also summon all the closest witnesses to this case, including the parents, neighbours and members of the public who encountered the victim last night.

"The police are actively working to identify suspects since the victim's body was found.

"We will also go to the location where the victim was found to see if there are any new clues," he said when approached by reporters at the Section 9 Muslim Cemetery, Kota Damansara, here, today.

Zayn Rayyan's body was examined yesterday afternoon before being taken to Masjid Damansara Damai here for prayers.

His body was taken out of the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensic Department (HSB) at 5.55pm, after the autopsy process was completed.

After the funeral prayer at Masjid Damansara Damai, his body was then buried at the Section 9 Muslim Cemetery in Kota Damansara near here, at around 7 pm.
