Hussein: Latest developments point to an individual in Zayn Rayyan case

KLANG: The police have obtained leads pointing to an individual possibly linked to the death of 6-year-old autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussien Omar Khan said a comprehensive investigation is ongoing from various angles to gather accurate facts related to the case.

"With the marks found (on the victim's neck and body), we believe it involves an individual. We are looking at all angles, police databases, and conducting mass screenings," said Hussien.

"We hope to get positive leads to apprehend the culprit. Currently, the available leads point to an individual.

"Many questions need answers, we just need facts to address those questions. Let's pray together that we can catch the perpetrator."

"We don't want to work on speculation, so let's give space for the police to work with facts," he added when asked about the developments in the child's death," he said.

He spoke to reporters in the courtyard of Istana Alam Shah after an investiture ceremony in conjunction with the 78th Birthday Celebration of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Hussein added that the process of reviewing dashboard camera footage from residents' vehicles in the area is ongoing to aid investigation.

Further commenting, he said that the investigation suggests the possibility that the child's body was discarded in the evening, about 200 meters from his residence in Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai.

"On the same morning, we searched but did not find anything. So (we conducted another search), and we found the victim's body at night.

"It is likely (the body was disposed of) in the evening during heavy rain. We believe in that evening."

"We haven't found any items yet that could lead to the perpetrator; we are still trying to find them," he said.

Meanwhile, he said that the police investigation is also focusing on a storage area located 50 meters from the victim's residence to identify individuals frequently present in that location.

"We want to see or investigate who often lingers there. This storage is for storing old items and recyclables, so there is a possibility that the criminal has been there. We want to check for fingerprints at the scene."

"That's why I say this investigation is open, and we are looking from various angles, whether from within or outside the area.

"We don't want to miss any angle in this investigation. The storage is locked, and there is a guard," he added.
