Lorry driver charged for unlawful possession of over 24,000 litres of subsidised diesel

SUNGAI PETANI: A lorry driver claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today to the charge of unlawful possession of over 24,000 litres of subsidised diesel without a valid licence.

The accused, G. Chandrakumar, 46, made the plea after the charge was read before Judge Azman Abu Hasan.

According to the charge, the accused stored 24,676 litres of subsidised diesel at a premise in a questionable state, violating Regulation 3 (1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 for dealing with scheduled controlled goods wholesale or retail without a licence.

The alleged offence took place in a premise at Jalan Pinang Emas 1, Pinang Emas here on Oct 4, 2022, at around 1pm.

The charge is framed under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122) and is punishable under Section 22 (1) of the same act which carries a fine not exceeding RM1 million or imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years or both.

The judge granted a RM20,000 bail for the accused and fixed Feb 5, 2024, for mention.

He also ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station monthly starting from Feb 1, 2024, until the case is settled.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy public prosecutor Roslina Idris prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer T Sharmela.

The accused has paid the bail.
