Murder trial of foreign man postponed due to language barrier

AMPANG: The magistrate's court here today postponed the proceedings of a murder charge on a foreign man, who killed a foreigner earlier this month, due to language barrier.

Magistrate Normaizan Ramli said this after the accused, Shah Alam Abu Boshor, 26, said he did not understand the charge read out to him.

Shah Alam, who was unrepresented, told the court that he could only understand a little of Bahasa Malaysia.

The court set March 6 to enable the prosecution to provide an interpreter.

The accused was to be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He had allegedly murdered a foreigner during an drunken spat in Taman Pandan Jaya, Ampang on Dec 10.

Police arrested five foreigners, four men and a woman, aged between 19 and 51, in Pahang and Ampang to assist in investigations.
