Indonesian man charged with stabbing sister to death

JOHOR BARU: An Indonesian man was charged with stabbing his 42-year-old sister to death at the Magistrate Court here today.

Said Afendi, 24, nodded his head in acknowledgment when the charges were read in front of Magistrate Nur Khalida Farhana Abu Bakar.

No plea was recorded from the accused during the proceedings.

Said stands accused of allegedly murdering his sister Syarifah Ilawati, also an Indonesian-national, at Block 15, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, in Skudai, on Dec 24, at 2am.

The accused is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Fatimah Mamu, did not propose any bail and requested a new mention date while the chemical and forensic investigation reports were made available.

The court scheduled Feb 18 next year for mention, with no bail granted for the accused.

Earlier, New Straits Times reported police arrested a married couple after a woman was found dead in a flat unit at Taman Ungku Tun Aminah on Christmas eve.

Police also seized a knife, believed to be the murder-weapon.
