SEREMBAN: An underage teen has been brought before the magistrate court here today, on the charges of killing an elderly man in Rantau, two weeks ago.
The 17-year-old boy only nodded when the charges were read to him before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali.
He was accused of killing Muhammad Zahid Nagappan, 74, at a home in Kampung Pasir, Jalan Siliau, Rantau, between 11.30pm on Jan 3 and 10am on Jan 4.
The teenager was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty if convicted.
However, no confession was recorded at today's proceedings.
Deputy Public Prosecutor M Pusppa did not propose bail since the accused was charged for a non-bailable offence.
The accused was not represented. The court set March 18 for remention.
