'Our family is thankful for court's decision today'

JOHOR BARU: The family of Jahidah Nordin, who grabbed headlines more than two years ago after she was beaten by her husband while pregnant, hopes that justice will be served.

Her father, Nordin Kassim, 70, said the family was still affected by the incident, which caused his eldest daughter to fall into a coma.

The retiree arrived from Keningau, Sabah, to attend the proceedings on Monday and visited Jahidah in Sendayan, Seremban yesterday.

"It is our family's biggest hope that there will be justice for Jahidah.

"However, our family is relieved and thankful for the court's decision today.

"Jahidah is still like before. She cannot move, is bedridden, and cannot talk.

"Jahidah's condition moved me to tears, seeing the suffering she's endured, especially for my grandchildren who cannot cannot receive a mother's love as they should be," he said when met at the Sessions Court here, today.

The court ordered an entrepreneur to enter his defence for causing severe injuries to Jahidah, who was the man's third ex-wife.

Judge Fatimah Zahari made the decision after the prosecution successfully established a prima facie case against the accused, Rosmaini Abd Raof, 41.

Earlier, Nordin and his two children, Fauziah and Fazariah, were present at the court compound here as early as 8am for the proceedings.

Lawyer Muhammad Hazeem Mohd Norizan held a watching brief for the family of Jahidah, 46, whose full name in the court document is Jahidah Nordin@Sylvester.

On June 17, 2021, Rosmaini had pleaded not guilty for causing severe injuries to his ex-wife.

Based on the charge sheet, he had intentionally caused severe injuries to Jahidah by hitting her head, face, hands, and stomping on the back of her body, resulting in severe injuries.

He committed the offence in an apartment on Jalan Tani, Kampung Aman, Larkin, here at about 6am on May 4, 2021.

He is charged with an offence punishable under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison and a fine.

The charge is read together with Section 326A of the Penal code, which provides for imprisonment for twice the maximum period under the offence section.
