Second raid on Kelantan's mini Dhaka: 5 foreigners arrested for lack of documents

KOTA BARU: The state Immigration Department raided Kelantan's mini Dhaka for the second time today after the first raid on Jan 5.

Kelantan Immigration deputy director (for management) Nik Akhtarulhaq Nik Abdul Rahman said today's operation saw 17 foreigners and three locals have their documents checked.

Of the number, he said five were arrested for entering Malaysia without documents.

He said the five comprised four from India and a Bangladeshi.

"Today's operation was conducted at Jalan Hilir Pasar, involving 14 immigration officers.

"The operation, codenamed 'Op Kutip and Sapu,' began at 9 am," he said in a statement tonight.

During the operation, Nik Akhtarulhaq said the authorities also inspected a popular business outlet among foreigners.

He added that the five foreigners had been taken to the Tanah Merah detention camp for further action.

On Jan 5, four children were among nearly 300 undocumented foreigners caught by state enforcement agencies in a special operation codenamed 'Op Kutip' carried out in the town area.

The operation in what is now known as Kelantan's 'Mini Dhaka' was jointly carried out by the Immigration Department, the police, and the Kota Baru Municipal Council.
