Man busted after hiding under stage to take upskirt videos of women at Bukit Jalil mall

KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year-old man who allegedly took upskirt videos of several women during an event at a mall in Bukit Jalil here, has been detained by police.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said in the 9pm incident yesterday, the suspect hid under the stage before using his phone to record indecent videos of the female performers.

He said a member of public, who noticed the man's actions, alerted one of the performers, who was also the complainant in this case.

It is learnt that the suspect tried to flee the scene but was stopped by the complainant's friend and several others.

"They identified the man and handed him to members of the auxiliary police stationed at the mall," he said, adding that a video of the incident had also gone viral on several social media platforms.

Zam Halim said the suspect was handed to the police about 11.15pm after the complainant lodged a report at the Bukit Jalil police station last night.

"The suspect was apprehended and granted a three-day remand to facilitate investigations starting today until Jan 22," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for sexual harassment and Section 14 of the Minor Offenses Act 1955.

Zam Halim said Cheras police will not tolerate or compromise with anyone failing to abide by the laws.

He said stern action strict will be taken on anyone who breaks the law or tries to disturb the peace and safety of the public.
