Father of student who intimidated principal, teachers arrested

KOTA KINABALU: The father of a student who intimidated the principal and teachers at his son's school has been arrested by the police.

A video of the man and his son confronting the school personnel after the latter was caught smoking in the school toilet has gone viral on social media. The student is currently sitting for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah confirmed the arrest for criminal intimidation. He also said that the police would apply for remand against the suspect to assist in investigations.

It is learned that the student has been caught smoking in the restroom by a teacher. The father, fearing that the school would punish his son, later went to the school and confronted the principal and teachers.

The school administration subsequently reported the incident to the police.

Sabah Education director Datuk Raisin Saidin said the department had received reports regarding the incident.

"It is true that the student had smoked in the school toilet, and such action is not allowed in the school compound.

"However, the student is still allowed to sit for SPM. He will not be stopped even though he has been expelled from the school."

Raisin also advised all students to behave themselves and not disturb the order in the examination hall.

There are 38,778 candidates who have registered to sit for the SPM between today and March 7 at 315 examination centres in the state.
