Immigration Dept working with other agencies to address undocumented immigrants

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department is working with multiple different agencies and ministries to detect foreign workers who are being employed illegally in Malaysia.

Its Deputy Director-General (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said the department would be conducting more operations from time to time both with and without the cooperation of other agencies.

"We are always working with other enforcement agencies, not just the Human Resource ministry.

"We cannot work in silo," he said to the media after a press conference on the bust of an online gambling syndicate masterminded by Chinese nationals.

Recently, the Immigration Department had conducted several raids involving undocumented immigrants.

Over 1,000 members enforcement officers surrounded 'Mini Dhaka' at Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 21 and detained at least 500 foreign nationals.

In another raid, another 370 foreigners believed to be immigrants were inspected and more than 100 were detained in a joint operation organised by Immigration Department in Brickfields area on Jan 1.
