TELUK INTAN: Police have detained a security guard of a primary school here yesterday after he allegedly committed sexual assault on a seven-year-old pupil.
Hilir Perak police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said police initiated a probe after the man's colleague lodged a police report at about 10am.
Ahmad Adnan said the complainant told police that the 45-year-old suspect had hugged and sexually assaulted a Standard One pupil in front of a class.
"The incident happened at 6.30am when the man's colleague was patrolling the school.
"A team of policemen from Hilir Perak Criminal Investigations Department apprehended the suspect at the school at about 11am, on the same day," he said in a statement.
Ahmad Adnan said the victim later told police that the suspect had committed the act several times at the school.
"Initial investigation revealed that the man admitted to being involved in the case," he said adding that the man has been remanded for six days beginning today until Feb 6.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping on conviction.
He added that the investigation papers would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instruction.
