Man, fiancée who knock over cop on patrol remanded for a week

IPOH: A man and his fiancée, who intentionally knocked down a policeman twice with their Proton Iriz car on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor, have been remanded for a week.

The remand order, which runs until Feb 12, was issued by magistrate Siti Nora Sharif at the magistrate's court here today.

The remand order is to enable the couple aged 33 and 34 to be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder which carries a maximum of 20 years' jail upon conviction.

Last night, acting on a tip-off, police managed to arrest the couple. A urine test conducted on the man came back positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) drug and the couple had criminal records, including crime and narcotic offences.

On Sunday, a police officer was seriously injured after being allegedly intentionally hit by a car in a hit-and-run incident on Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Chemor.

The 7.30pm incident resulted in the 34-year-old victim suffering fractures to his shoulder and rib.

The incident occurred when the victim, and another police officer on duty, were conducting crime prevention patrols on their motorcycles.

Sensing something was amiss, the two officers approached a blue Proton Iriz, which had stopped on the side of the road.

The driver of the Proton Iriz then reversed the vehicle into the officers' bikes, causing the victim to fall.

The suspect then accelerated forward before reversing the car again, hitting the victim for the second time, before fleeing the scene towards Tanah Hitam.
