Woman civil servant on suspicion of accepting RM16,000 bribe remanded

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant suspected of soliciting and accepting an RM16,000 bribe for the approval of land groundbreaking at a district and land office in Selangor has been remanded for four days.

A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source said Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali granted the remand order following an application by the commission at the Kuala Selangor magistrate's court earlier today.

The remand period is from today until Feb 10.

"The suspect is represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation," said the source.

Yesterday, Selangor MACC arrested the civil servant at about 2pm at the MACC Kuala Selangor branch office when she came in for questioning.

The said the suspect, a woman in her 40s, is alleged to have solicited and received bribes from three landowners in the district who sought approval for land groundbreaking.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect received a bribe of RM16,000, deposited into her personal bank account in 2022," said the source.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest, stating that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
