Singaporean arrested in Genting Highlands over viral CNY road rage

JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a Singaporean man in Genting Highlands in the wee hours today, after a video showing him in an altercation with a driver of a multipurpose vehicle went viral.

The suspect in his 40s was driving a red Mitsubishi Lancer when he hit the rear screen of the MPV with an object which looked like a golf club at Km139.6 of the North-South Expressway heading north on Saturday.

The incident occurred during the massive Chinese New Year traffic congestion along the highway in Pagoh, Muar.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said a team of detectives from the state contingent police headquarters picked up the suspect in Genting Highlands in Pahang at 3.30am today.

He said the foreigner was remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by causing damage.

The offence provides for an imprisonment term of up to five years and a fine, upon conviction.

Kumar urged members of the public not to make speculation that could impede the ongoing investigations.

He also urged them to be sensible on the roads, especially during the festive seasons.
