15 arrested for online cockfighting gambling in Kelantan raid

KOTA BARU: Fifteen men were arrested by police for their alleged involvement in online cockfighting gambling during a raid at Beris Kubor Besar, Bachok, yesterday.

Kelantan police chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun, said the 15 were watching the televised match at a food stall when the raid was carried out at about 3.30pm.

"A police team conducted a raid following tips from the public. During the operation, 15 men were found watching the cockfights on television.

"Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the men were involved in online cockfighting gambling through a Thai television channel.

"Police detained the men and seized the television as well as RM628 in cash," he told reporters today.

Zaki said an initial investigation showed that the men had been watching the Thai cockfighting matches for the past few months and paid between RM2 and RM20 each.

"The online (matches) start between 3pm and 5pm every day. The 15, all locals, include a government servant and the owner of the food stall," he said.

Zaki added that the men, aged between 25 and 74, have been remanded for four days starting today.
