More reports lodged over Nik Elin's death threats, says Home Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have received two more reports in connection with the death threats against lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

This, said Saifuddin, made the total number of police reports lodged over the case to five as of Thursday (Feb 15).

He added that four of the reports were lodged in Sri Hartamas, with one lodged in Jinjang.

Although the police have yet to make any arrests over the case, Saifuddin pledged that the ministry through the police will not spare any efforts to apprehend the culprits responsible.

"We will not take the case lightly. We also do not want to underestimate (the gravity of the case).

"We will go after the person who created such a situation (suspects responsible allegedly involved in the case).

"At the same time, I want to ensure the people that we will not spare any efforts in ensuring public order and security in the country," he told reporters after visiting the reporters after visiting the General Operations Force's Central Brigade headquarters here today.

Present was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

During an exclusive interview on the New Straits Times' Beyond the Headlines podcast, Nik Elin Zurina had said that she had received several death threats over her constitutional challenge to provisions under Kelantan Syariah law. Nik Elin Zurina said she recently filed three police reports regarding these threats.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid on Wednesday (Feb 14) had said identified the owner of three social media accounts believed to have threatened lawyer Nik Elin Zurina. (https://www.nst.com.my/amp/news/crime-courts/2024/02/1013319/police-iden...).

He added that three investigation papers were opened regarding the threats, including one that had been handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action.
