Civil servant nabbed for awarding RM540k contract to wife's companies

SEREMBAN: A civil servant was nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly awarding a RM540,517 government contract to his wife's companies.

According to a source, the civil servant, a 49-year-old man was detained at 11.55pm last night after giving his statement at the Negri Sembilan MACC office.

The source said the man is suspected of misusing his position to appoint his wife's companies to supply goods and services to his department.

"Investigations indicate that four of his wife's companies received contracts worth RM540,517.85."

The man has been remanded for seven days until 26 February and will be detained at Negri Sembilan MACC's lockup.

When contacted, Negri Sembilan MACC director, Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed the arrest. He said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power.
