Police foil drug syndicate with arrest of two

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have busted a drug syndicate that has been operating since last year from a luxury condominium here with the arrest of two men.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the two locals, aged 41 and 26, were nabbed on Feb 14 while packing various substances weighing almost 180kg for distribution in the Klang Valley, Sabah and Sarawak.

"The syndicate's modus operandi was to use residential premises to store its drugs, which would then be distributed locally, especially the Klang Valley.

"It is believed to have been active since the middle of last year," he said at the Cheras district police headquarters today.

He also said that the older suspect was believed to be the syndicate's mastermind, while the younger one was suspected of being the runner and storekeeper. Both have been remanded.

One of the suspects has a criminal record with 22 convictions.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Kamarudin said police operations at two other luxury condominiums in Cheras led to the seizure of methamphetamine, erimin 5, ecstasy, ketamine and MDMA powder worth RM7.6 million.

"Preliminary investigations found that this syndicate was using courier services for distribution to Sabah and Sarawak. We are still investigating the modus operandi and the courier companies involved."

He added that NCID would continue to track down other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
