Parang-wielding robbers flee with two cats worth RM10,000

KUALA LUMPUR: A pet seller lost two cats worth RM10,000 and received 36 stitches after being attacked with a parang in a robbery in Bandar Utama on Sunday.

The victim Ryan Cheah, 26, said he first encountered the perpetrator, posing as a customer, on Feb 10.

"The man came to my house in the same area on the first day of Chinese New Year (Feb 10) and bought a cat.

"A few days later, he contacted me again expressing interest in buying two more cats and wanted to meet me at the parking lot of a shopping centre on Feb 18," he said when contacted yesterday.

However, Cheah felt uneasy about the location of the meeting and decided to meet him at a nearby bus stop instead.

"I went there with a female friend at 7.30pm on the day of the incident, and we noticed the customer's car was damaged as if it had just been in an accident.

"I then spoke to the individual and got into his car. At that moment, he pulled out a knife and demanded that I transfer all the money to his bank," he said.

Cheah explained that his female friend was unaware of the robbery as she didn't know what was happening inside the vehicle.

He said another person was instructed to take the two cats - a British Short Hair and Munchkin breed - from his woman companion.

"At that point, I took the opportunity to escape by opening the car door and trying to get out, but the man brandished a parang and attacked me.

"Nevertheless, I managed to exit the vehicle, causing them to flee the scene," he said, adding he suffered injuries to his hands and legs from the attack.

Cheah, who also lost his mobile phone in the incident, said he was still traumatised by the incident.

"I am also concerned for my safety because the criminal knows the location of my house, as he had been there before."

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid confirmed receiving a report about the incident, and said that arrests have been made.
