Hadi spends an hour being quizzed by police

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang today spent slightly more than an hour being questioned by federal police over a statement he made allegedly against the Malay Rulers on Feb 20.

Speaking to reporters outside the Pas headquarters, Hadi's special officer Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman said Hadi had given his full cooperation during the process with Bukit Aman's Classified Crime Investigation Unit members.

"It is up to the investigators now. Hadi cooperated fully with the ongoing investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," said Syahir, who is also the Bachok member of parliament.

Yesterday, Razarudin confirmed that Hadi was being investigated over his remarks.

Recently, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had expressed displeasure at Hadi's statement on Feb 20 which was directed to religious scholars, lawyers, judges, members of parliament, state legislative assemblies and the Malay rulers via a letter.

In the letter, Sultan Sharafuddin had said Hadi did not thoroughly understand or read the ruler's speech during the meeting of the Malaysian National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) on Feb 15, especially in relation to the decision of the Federal Court in the case which challenged the validity of 16 criminal provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Enactment 2019.

Before having his statement recorded today, Hadi had sent a letter of menjunjung kasih to Sultan Sharafuddin, via the ruler's private secretary Datuk Muhamad Munir Bani.

However, Syahir refused to reveal further details about the contents of Hadi's letter to the Selangor ruler, asking that the media respect the confidentiality of the duo's communications.
