Former senior civil servant claims RM30,000 disappeared from Tabung Haji account [NSTTV]

KUCHING: A former senior civil servant claimed that she had lost more than RM30,000 after funds in her Tabung Haji account were suspected to have been transferred to other accounts and withdrawn through automated teller machines (ATMs) since 2018.

However, Datuk Jabidah Monseri, 66, said she only realised the loss of the money on November 30 last year.

Jabidah said that after retiring as the deputy director general of the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) in 2017, she was offered the position as chairman of UNIMAS Holdings, a subsidiary of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

"As I was too busy with my new duties, I did not update my Tabung Haji account, especially since I was very confident with the security of the funds held in Tabung Haji.

"In 2019, I was also appointed as a member of the Sarawak Civil Service Commission, and I became even busier as I had to frequently travel across the state, so I continued to neglect checking my Tabung Haji account," she told NSTP.

She said in November last year, she rediscovered her Tabung Haji account book. "I then went to the Tabung Haji office on Jalan Satok in Kuching to update my account book.

"However, I nearly fainted when the clerk told me that my account only had a balance of RM1,816.74, whereas there should have been over RM31,000 in it," she said. She said further check of the detailed account statement showed that her savings was withdrawn through 30 transactions starting from Feb 26, 2018.

Seven transactions were made through transfers from Tabung Haji to several bank accounts, while 23 were withdrawals made using ATMs. The first transfer to a bank account on Feb 26, 2018, amounted to RM10,000, and on the same date, a withdrawal of RM1,000 was made using an ATM card.

After that, six more transfers from Tabung Haji to bank accounts were made on March 11, 2018 (RM5,000), May 7, 2018 (RM6,000), May 21, 2018 (RM5,000), May 30, 2018 (RM4,000), June 27, 2018 (RM3,500), and Jan 1, 2019 (RM5,000). ATM withdrawals began on Feb 26, 2018, and continued for 23 transactions until Jan 21, 2020, with each withdrawal ranging from RM1,000 to RM1,500.

Following that, Jabidah filed a report at the Gita police station here on Dec 1 last year to demand that Tabung Haji take action regarding the loss of her funds. However, she expressed regret that to date, she has received no communication from Tabung Haji despite three months having passed since the report was filed.

"I hope Tabung Haji will provide a response and take responsibility for the loss of my savings," she said.
