Subang Jaya police chief denies claims his men were rude to TV presenter

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today refuted claims two motorcycle patrolmen were rude, arrogant and unprofessional during an inspection involving a television news presenter at a residential area in USJ9, Subang Jaya, near here, on March 13.

Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the two policemen from the motorcycle patrol unit (URB) involved during the inspection had performed their duties according to the police guidelines.

He said both have also lodged police reports over the claims that were highlighted by the television presenter, in his 30s, via a letter-to-the-editor that was published yesterday.

Wan Azlan added that the reports were lodged as the policemen felt that the claims made against them were not true and that it had affected the image of the country's police force, especially Subang Jaya police.

"In the article (letter-to-editor), the television presenter claimed that both members from the URB exhibited rude, arrogant and unprofessional behaviour.

"He also claimed that the policemen did not allow him to ask questions and that they did not offer any apology after the inspection concluded," he said in a statement.

Wan Azlan said the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Police, he said, called on people to be more vigilant and provide full cooperation to the police in an effort to eradicate crime.

In the letter, the television presenter said that the incident took place last Tuesday when he was returning home after completing his midnight news programme.

One of the two policemen patrolling his residential area in Subang Jaya, he said, displayed unprofessional behaviour and was rude and arrogant during the inspection.
