Saifuddin promises fair investigation into TV host's complaint of rude cops

PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has pledged that the investigation into the complaint of a television show host concerning the disrespectful conduct of Subang Jaya police patrolmen will be conducted thoroughly and impartially.

He emphasised the necessity of a comprehensive investigation, stressing the importance of gathering information from both parties involved rather than relying solely on one side's account.

"I will carefully consider the perspectives of both parties to ensure fairness. We need to hear from both the complainant and the policemen involved to understand the full picture accurately.

"As we address this issue, we await the findings of the investigation. It's important to remember that the police, like any other individuals, can sometimes make mistakes, and it's crucial to get to the bottom of the matter.

"The complainant has presented his side of the story. Given the specificity of this complaint, we have records of the men on duty during the incident. Through a meticulous investigation, we aim to uncover the truth and ensure a thorough examination of the situation," he said during today's press conference.

Previously, former de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim had raised concerns about the police response to the complaint of the TV host regarding the conduct of the Subang Jaya police patrol unit member, who reportedly confronted him outside his residence.

Zaid had said it was bizarre that the Subang Jaya police were investigating the complainant instead of probing a complaint from the public.

He was referring to a statement by Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat who was quoted as saying that an investigation had been initiated against the man who complained about the rude conduct of a policeman on patrol.

Wan Azlan had said this after refuting the complainant's claims that the patrolmen who engaged him were rude, arrogant and unprofessional during an inspection at a residential area in USJ9, Subang Jaya on March 13.

He defended the two policemen by stating that they had performed their duties according to the police guidelines.
