Another person to be charged for offensive remarks on 'Allah' socks

KUALA LUMPUR: Another individual will be charged tomorrow for posting offensive content related to the word "Allah" on socks.

The individual will be charged under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a penalty of up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction. The charge will be filed at the Sessions Court (Cyber) here.

Today, a man named Ricky Shane Cagampang, aged 33, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and fined RM15,000, with a default of four months' imprisonment, after pleading guilty to posting offensive remarks on Facebook regarding the word "Allah" on socks.

In sentencing, the court said that cases like this should be severely punished because, in this borderless world, everyone can easily voice their opinions through social media.
