Senior citizen whips out pistol, chases car repossessor away

KAJANG: Police are investigating a case that saw a senior citizen whip out a pistol to chase a car repossessor away in Bandar Tun Hussien Onn.

The incident, which happened on Tuesday morning, was triggered by a dispute between the senior citizen, 60, and a car repossessor, 34.

The man had gone to confront the car repossessor who was in the process of repossessing a vehicle of a woman believed to be behind in her loan repayments. The woman is the senior citizen's daughter.

Kajang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said according to a report lodged by the repossessor, the senior citizen tried to stop them from taking the car because they did not have proof that the woman had loan arrears.

This evidence included a letter from the bank and a police report.

"The repossessor said the man also denied his daughter was behind in her loan repayments," he said in a statement.

"This led to a dispute before the man whipped out a pistol and chased the repossessor, who was with a colleague, away."

Fearing for their safety, the repossessor and his colleague fled and filed a police report.

They managed to capture the man holding the pistol on video, and the clip of the incident has gone viral.

Mohd Zaid said they also received a police report from the senior citizen, who has a valid firearm license, and have confiscated his pistol.

"The suspect claims to have acted out of concern and suspicion over the reposessor's actions."

According to the suspect, he believed the repossessor had "ill intentions" to repossess the vehicle without sufficient evidence to justify his actions.

Police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
